Day 3 of recovery

7/3/14

Day 3 of recovery

Alexa is still doing incredibly well & sassier than ever, haha!!  It was my turn to stay at the hospital with her & Ty went to RMH since I went there the night before.  I forgot to mention yesterday that I went there yesterday & was able to go to sleep at 8:30 PM & sleep till 6 AM!!  I felt so much better after getting a good sleep & working out on the elliptical & having a nice shower!!  Last night Alexa got up about 4 times to go to the bathroom & pretty much got up on her own with just the nurse’s help!  Everyone is so surprised at her progress!!  I’m not, I know why she is healing so fast!  The power of everyone’s prayers & fasting & the power of the Priesthood is working its miracles right in front of us!!!  She is doing things that others don’t do till much later according to some of the nurses & doctors!  Everyone comments on what a strong girl she is!!  She is starting to get itchy from the morphine so they are considering switching her to a different medication.  As we were walking this morn PT said, “We’re just going to go to the green leaves on the floor.”  Ty said, “We’re almost there, do you see the green leaves?”  She said, “I’m not color blind!!”  She said a couple of other really sassy things but Ty & I can’t remember what, we’re getting old ya know!  Something like when I said, “You’re doing really great!”  She said something like, “Oh yeah, you don’t know what it feels like!!”  That’s a sign she’s getting better, when she gets persnickety!!  They had an NCIS marathon today on TV so that kept her occupied a bit as long as she could stay awake for it.  Dr. Chinnakolta came in again & we told him that a drain coming out of her belly was really hurting her a lot & he said he normally leaves it in a week but if it’s hurting, he may take it out as early as tomorrow!  I will try & take a pic of her belly with all the many drains & tubes coming out of her, it’s really crazy!!  She also got 2 of the pumps removed from her IV pole just now so we have made some progress!!  As I have been typing this the nurse came in to get us & said that one of the drains coming out of her belly, the one the dr said he would remove, was cloudy last time she emptied it.  She said it was something called chyle leak and they just needed to change her feeding tube formula & her body should heal itself.  Also her stools have been very runny so they are wondering if she may have a C. Diff infection.  The nurses kind of laughed about it though & said it was silly.  They are having to wear all of this protective stuff every time they came into the room because of it & they said it is just because of all of the stool softeners & Miralax they have been giving her & they would be so surprised if it came back positive.  Everyone says the 1st 4 days are the absolute worst so we are almost thru the worst, yea!!!!
